We are so excited to have you joining us for this cross country season! The purpose of this post is to make sure we are all on the same page so our season can start smoothly. Please read this information carefully so you don't miss anything important!
First Practice
Our first practice will be held on Monday 8/12 at 3:15pm. The team meets on the bleachers by the track. Make sure to wear appropriate clothing and to bring a full water bottle and a watch with a stopwatch function. (GPS is not necessary!)
All athletes must be signed up for XC and have a current physical before they will be allowed to practice.
Parent Meeting
We will have an informational parent meeting on Monday 8/12 at 6pm in the Castle View Library. This is not mandatory, but it is a great opportunity for new parents to get to know the coaches and ask questions. If you cannot make it, all information shared at this meeting will be posted to the website following the meeting and questions can be communicated via email.
Communication
Typically, we do not send out emails during the season. The best way to keep track of the team is to check our blog page at least once a week. It is updated on Sunday or Monday morning with information on the upcoming week. You can find the blog page linked here.
In order to communicate more quickly if things come up, please sign up for our Remind messages. It allows us to send out notifications to individuals and to the team. It is very important to sign up in case we need to adjust practice or meet plans.
Transportation
This season, we will try to meet off campus at trailheads 2-3 times a week. This helps us prevent injury by keeping us off hard surfaces and helps us keep our training fresh and fun. Additionally, DCSD is having trouble hiring enough activity bus drivers to meet demand. As a result, we will sometimes need to carpool athletes to get them where they need to be. Attached to this email is a transportation awareness form that will need to be filled out and turned in to a coach. If you have questions or concerns about this, please let us know.
Fundraising
We will be fundraising with SNAP this year. It is an easy way to help the team get funding without having to spend a lot of time out of practice or trying to sell things to acquaintances. Athletes will simply need to collect 20 emails of people likely to support them and information will be sent out to those people of how to support the team. It's simple, easy and relatively pain free. Please check out this link for more details. Athletes should have a list of emails prepared for practice next week.
Spike Night
One of the easiest ways to prevent injury and make running sustainable is to make sure athletes have proper footwear. We recommend that ALL athletes have a gait analysis done before running in high school to determine the best shoe type for them. All returning athletes should have a fresh pair of shoes to start the season. (It is best to replace running shoes every 300-500 miles or 3-4 times per year.)
RNK Running and Walking in Parker will be offering the team discounts and free pizza on August 14th from 5-7:30pm. Please see the attached flyer for details.
Additional Information
Schedule- There may be some changes to the schedule and we will make sure to inform you as soon as possible with these changes. (Specifically, we may add a meet in on the week following the Vista 2 Mile.)
Expectations- Please make sure you understand what we expect of our athletes to prevent any issues this season!
Parent Volunteers- We will need parent volunteers throughout the season for snacks, banquet planning, photography, memory book and etc. Most importantly, we will need a parent lead to help coordinate. If you are interested in being a parent lead, please let Coach Cook know!
We are incredibly excited about this season and can't wait to work with you!
Thank you,
Your XC Coaches
