As most of you know, DCSD has officially cancelled all in-person summer camps for the month of June and the rules are the same as they were for spring track- no official practices and no in-person contact with coaches. Right now, the hope is for summer XC practices to commence on July 1st, which is the district’s current (tentative) re-start day.
Going forward, our plan will be similar to the spring track season, where I will be providing online coaching. One major change is that we will be using a program called “Final Surge” to plan and log our training. This is a very cool software that has an easy to use interface, and will allow me to see what each of you is doing for training. The program also allows for more detailed description from coach and athlete, which will hopefully better resemble the in-person coaching we would normally be doing.
Remember this program is open to all incoming middle and high school athletes. If you all have younger siblings, or know of younger runners interested in doing XC at the high school or the middle school, please let them know to sing up!!
All fees for the first month of summer conditioning will be waived, and will continue to be free as long as we cannot physically meet. If things do begin on July 1st, summer conditioning will be charged at a “pro-rated” amount from the start date through the beginning of the season.
A couple of things to remember for this upcoming summer of training
- New shoes- If you are planning on running this summer, a new pair of running shoes is an absolute must. The shoes you wore for track, or even worse, last XC season do not have the support to help get you through the season injury free. I work at RNK running in Parker, which is a great place to be professionally fit for running shoes. Runner’s Roost in Lone Tree is also a good option.
- A watch- Baseball players bring their mitts, Lacrosse players bring their stick, and runners bring THEIR WATCHES. Here at CV our training is time-based, and without a watch it will be impossible to know what you are doing without one. It doesn’t need to be anything fancy. I will always let you know that there are princess and superman watches at Walmart for seven dollars. Graham and Seamus took me up on this last year, and were the coolest guys at practice when they wore theirs. If it has a stopwatch it works for us.
Once again, please fill out the participation document at the top. Doing so quickly will allow me to get our summer training groups organized. As I mentioned before, all online coaching will be FREE, and participating will be very important for having the best summer of training possible!
