COVID-19 Preventative Measures
Practices this summer will look a bit different than before, due to the mandatory cautionary measures implemented by the district. Please familiarize yourself with all of the rules and procedures:
Group Size: The district is limiting group size to 25 athletes. Because of this, we will be splitting runners into 2 Groups (possibly 3) with one starting at 7:00, and the other at 7:45. Before the first day of practice you will told which group you are a part of. It is essential that you show up 10 minutes before your scheduled time, as each athlete will need to be “checked-in” to practice
Waiver/ Sign-Up: For liability reasons, every student attending practice will need to be officially signed up, and have a waiver on file with the athletic office. You can find that waiver by following the link. Any athlete, even if you have run on the team before, will not be allowed to attend any practices before completing this process.
Masks/ Facial Coverings: All athletes are being required to show up and leave wearing a facial covering. Once the student is at practice, they will be allowed to remove the face mask, as long as social distancing guidelines are followed.
Equipment
Shoes: Proper footwear is an essential aspect of having a healthy and successful XC season. Shoes normally have only about 300-400 miles of life in them, so replacing shoes each season is necessary. RNK in Parker (where Coach Marshall works!) and Runner’s Roost Lone Tree are both great options to be professionally fit for a pair of shoes, and they do discounts for HS athletes. Please do so before the first day of training
Watch: All XC athletes are required to wear a watch every practice. This doesn’t need to be a fancy GPS watch- a $10 watch that has a stopwatch will do the trick. Our training here at CV is time-based, and without a watch it is impossible to do the workouts are assigned (I have yet to an see an athlete make proper use of a sundial to record running time)
Water Bottle: This is self-explanatory. It’s summer. Bring a water bottle, full, everyday
Other Information
Summer camp: Unfortunately, current district rules have barred any overnight trips, so we are not planning on doing our annual team retreat. We will be looking into alternative excursions Instead. This might be a full day trip into the nearby mountains, with running, hiking, lunch, team-bonding, etc. Dates and specifics are still tentative
Potential Cancellation: If district ruling changes, and summer conditioning is canceled mid-way through, you will receive a prorated refund for all missed practices
Practice Locations: Practice locations for the following week will be posted on the blog every weekend. These will be our normal locations: Bison Park, MAC, CVHS, Pine Cliff, and occasional “destination runs”. Links to the specific locations will always be posted
Practice Dates: We will be meeting every M/T/W/F/S. Thursday will be a “run on your own” day. We do our long run workouts on Saturdays, so switching to this format allows us to meet as a team for these days
Also, as a final note, I wanted to let you all know that Coach Cook has officially resigned from the Castle View program. She was head coach for 4 years, and under her leadership the team made significant progress and had a few historical seasons. She will be greatly missed.
We currently in the process of appointing a new co-head coach, and will announce that as soon as things are finalized. Additionally, we have two assistant coaches who will be helping out this summer.
This is all for now. Please reach out to me via remind or email with any questions. Please be sure to sign-up ASAP, so we can begin to give out specific instructions to athletes.
