I hope you all enjoyed a restful thanksgiving break. Let's start with an overview of some of the incredible things that happened at NXR.

Girls Large School
The girls got us started on the day, led by a top 10 performance by Neev Lev. It was a season's best, and helped lead the girls to an 8th place team finish. While nearly everyone in the race came close or beat their season's best, a few people really stood out:
Sloane Davis (19:21), Addy Main (21:51), and Kris Miller (26:40) all ran PRs of over a minute! Also, Sienna Manriolli (21:18), almost beat her mile PR from the spring before dropping a time that was over 3:30 fast than her time at NXR last year.
Even though we were missing a few girls from our state squad, it was cool to see some people step up and allow us to still put up a competitive team score.
Boys Large School
Boys were next up and Jacob Robbins led the way, running 16:04, and posting the 42nd best time for a sophomore at the entire meet! Impressive when you consider that this race pulls from every division across 5 states, and two of the guys in front of him were his teammates.
Nate Salazar and Gabe Gomez were the next two across the line, with Nate posting the 20th best freshman time of the entire meet.
The boys placed 9th in their race, beating all but 3 JV teams in the entire meet (American Fork, Niwot, and Riverton.) They also took down Cherry Creek's varsity group, who were very close to making the state XC meet this season. More proof that this was one of the best JV teams in the USA this year.
Similarly to the girls race, nearly every guy approached their season best. It was one of the most impressive and consistent NXRs I've ever seen from the team as a whole. That said, Liam Knott (18:01) Christian Mcquaid (18:42), Dallin Hart (21:58) all threw down some insane performances, each PR'ing by over a minute. Christian's PR was 2:11!!
Boys Championship
The boys championship team took the line in what is, without hyperbole, the third most competitive race that will happen in the United States this season (behind only NXN and the Brooks XC Champs.)
Simply qualifying for the meet is an achievement in and of itself. This was the boys 4th championship appearance in the last 6 NXRSW. I haven't gone through and done the math but I would assume that frequency was only matched by 10-15 other teams in our region at most.
While we came up short of our goal to place fourth and make NXN, the execution was perfect. We were in 7th at the mile, only 30 points out of 4th. But at the end of the day we came up short, and sometimes that's just sports. We knew it would be a longshot and the boys went for it. Lots of reason to hold our heads high.
Wyatt Dann's 19th place finish made him the first ever Castle View runner to ever finish NXR all region, and him and Evan both finished in the top 10 for sophomores in the entire region.
Dann Twins Take on Brooks XC
Evan and Wyatt flew out to Kenosha, Wisconsin this past Friday to run in the Brooks XC Midwest qualifier. For those of you who know anything about the history of our sport this was formerly the Foot Locker championships that served as the individual national meet from 1979 until last year when Brooks took it over.
Wyatt finished 4th and Evan was 22nd, fighting through pretty legendary snow throughout the race. Here's a video of the conditions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZDNzAgTBPU
Wyatt's 4th place finish earned him a bid to the Brooks XC National Championships in San Diego at Balboa Park on Sat 13th. I will send out more information about a live stream as we get closer to the race.
Here's an article on the history of Footlocker/ Brooks XC qualifiers in Colorado. As you see, Wyatt joins some pretty elite company https://co.milesplit.com/articles/342451/a-colorado-history-of-footlocker-nationals.
December Training
With another NXR in the books we begin our transition into winter running.
Everyone should start their break. For some people that will be a full two weeks, others can do a hybrid where they start mixing in some short runs/ cross training during the second week. But everyone needs to have at least a full 7 days with no running, no exceptions.
If you trained up to the Turkey Trot, your 2 weeks starts then.
Here's the doc with all of the training for the month of December: December Training Doc
There's only one group for training, but the daily range of mileage is pretty big. If you end up being less consistent over this month, don't jump back in the big runs right away. Work yourself back up gradually with the lower end of the mileage ranges.
Please reach out to coach Marshall if you need help with the workouts or setting a weekly mileage target.
What’s Next?
While we will not officially meet again until January, many athletes and coaches will continue running from campus after school. I will be running most Tuesdays and Thursdays from the school if you're looking to catch a run. Reach out to your teammates for running partners; many of them will be running almost every day.
Our winter training/ indoor track program will begin on January 5th. That sign-up is live and ready to go! See sabercattrackclub.com for more info.
We hope to have as many XC runners as possible out with us this winter. Spring champions are built in the snow!
